5 speed for my Series V

A recent 300 mile trip to the British club show in Fairhope AL has got me interested in changing my Alpine Series 5 to a 5-speed.
I would appreciate any suggestions and / or warnings about taking on such a project.

Buy an overdrive.... They do the same job and dotn require modified bell housings, trans tunnels speedo drives etc or the various other mods...
If you have to go 5 speed speak to Dellows who do the bell housing for the Toyota 5 speed

Thank you.

There's currently a fellow club member working on a Alpine 5-speed conversion utilizing a common Ford 5. He's got most of the bugs worked out and hope's to have something available next year. No tunnel mods but you'll lose the ashtray 'cause that's where the shifter handle comes out. I believe he also plans to fab a mount so the cover will be a screw-on instead of weld. Anybody have interest?

I am offering an adapter to use a FORD Mustang T5 transmission mated to the Alpine Bellhousing. The shiftter sits back near the same spot of the Alpine shifter. Howevere as Volvoguys says the ashtray is gone.

Send me a PM if interested.

Tom I got my conversion bell housing from Conversion Components. http://www.conversioncomp.co.nz/

I made my Sunbeam Alpine Bellhousing Adapter using a FORD T5 so that I could replace an Overdrive tranny that was needing rebuild. The rebuild was going to be much too costly, even more than designing, laser cutting the Adapter and purchasing a T5. Decided to offer it to the Sunbeam World as I did not know of all these sources you guys are now enlightening me to.

I think it is Great! Keep'em-on-the-Road,

Dan, I would like to buy your adapter, if available. It would give me momentum!

Shannon, it is time to restate a T5 cost formula from the wisdom of Jim Ellis. It is from about 20 years ago and may not be relevant, but still something to consider.
Plan on spending about $500 for the T5. Add $500 to bring it into usable condition.

It would be interesting to see some comment from today's T5 crowd.

Bill
Oh yes, happy shifting to all you guys contemplating this solution. The Alpine really does need this improvement and Dan is just the guy to provide the stuff to make it happen.

Thanks s usual, Don. I will keep this reference.
Dan, I kinda thought you may have already had that one since it is only about two and a quarter hours from you.

Links like that might be more scarce since my old PC just bit the "smoke release" switch. No Warning No Access

Your Welcome,

Would anyone else like to share their opinion as to Overdrive VS 5 Speed. I know Overdrives for the Alpine are rare on this side of the pond, but I was considering having one sent over from a guy who rebuilds them in the UK and it sure seems like an easier route in terms of putting in. But I really don't know how they really compare.
