2.8 V6 Distributor oil leak

I noticed I have a small puddle of oil were the dizzy mounts to the block. I found an exploded diagram in one of my books that seems to show an O-ring or gasket between the body of the dizzy and the engine block (I have nothing there now). Does anyone know what Ford used when the cars were new?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Todd:

You didn't get your distributor from Napa did you? I bought my re-manufactured distributor, for my 2.8, from Napa and I had a terrible oil leak at the base, the one that I bought did not have a groove for the o ring, I had ordered a new Performance Distributor and that one did have an o ring, so that ended the problem.:)

Mike, You are probably correct. The drawing I was looking at seemed to indicate that there was also an o-ring higher up - between the flange on the distributor shaft (which is captured by the retainer) and the block. My engine came out of a Capri, so I am running a Bosch Dizzy.

Kelly, Nope - same dizzy for the last 22 years. It might have been leaking all along - I just did a trans swap and re-painted the bell housing which may be making it more noticable.

Thanks for the input!
