Thanks Dan, will do. Whatever vacuum leak in the prior installation was enough to prevent it from idling. I hope to do a more careful install to prevent such a leak. Anyone know a way to check for leaking before installing everything back in the car. In other words, without running the engine.

Have been thinking about how to test for leaks before putting everything back in the car.

Getting all of the intake valves closed at the same time should allow you to pressurize (a few PSI) the intake manifold and use the soapy water method to check for escaping air around the manifold to head connections and the seal between the lower and upper manifolds. You would have to put a plate with a pressure source in place of the carburetor and might have to remove the rocker shafts, but it should work.
