2 1967 Sunbeam Alpines for sale

After many years it is time for me to become the dreaded PO (previous owner).

I have 2 1967 Sunbeam Alpines for sale.

The first one is the one that I bought from this very website. It has been made more drivable by me however is still a vintage driving experience (scary). It also has a history that I cannot positively verify but was told that the car was once owned by the lead guitarist of REM, Peter Buck. I have a repair bill that is from Athens GA to a man with the last name of Buck that could have been his dad. I know that this all is meaningless but still kinda cool if true.

This car is a 20 foot car meaning it looks pretty good from that distance. It most certainly must have been wrecked in it's past as there is evidence of repair.

The second car for sale is a project car. It has a straight body and looks to be as built from factory, no wrecks. Some rust and some dents. Various parts missing, various parts on it still. This one was to be my Alger but I have run out of desire and willingness to spend money on it.

There are lots of parts both new and used. Hubs to change from wires wheels to lugs, seat frames and cushions, books, documentation, 2 transmissions of unknow spec. etc.

Any guidance anyone can give on price is appreciated. I would like these cars to go to someone here that can give them the attention they deserve. I will be glad to supply more pictures if there is any interest.

I pledge to give total account of history and condition which is more than can be said for who I bought from...

I am located in Missouri in the Joplin area if anyone is nearby and would like to see/drive.

I am interested in the hubs to replace the wire wheels

If that is a good 20 footer then I may have to modify the description of mine as being a good 50 footer!

As for price, I don't think you will find much agreement on what the pair are worth. The old adage of 'what someone is willing to pay' seems to hold for Alpines that aren't fully sorted. Prices have certainly ticked up in recent years, beyond what many of us old timers think of as fair market value. A guy who lives near me paid about $6500 for a rust-free but non-running project and another $1500 for a parts car. He is in itt for over $10K after having both delivered, and still doesn't have a drivable vehicle. I would have never paid that much, but obviously, someone was willing to, and this was all about 3 years ago!

That is a long way of saying that you probably have two choices: 1) decide what you are willing to take for them, set that as your asking price and see what happens, or 2) list them on eBay or Bring a Trailer and hope for the best. (Note: I may be wrong on this, but I don't recall seeing project cars listed on BAT with a reserve, so you are really letting the market set the price and living with the results.)

Any price in mind and pictures of the project car?

Jim,
This is perfect feedback. Exactly what I was looking for. I agree with price being the most difficult aspect. I am looking to get it all gone in a package deal knowing full well that if I where to part this all out I could make more money.

I thought about listing on Craigslist, Ebay, BAT, etc. but this is really the best place to sell Alpines. My opinion.

I guess I'll need to throw a number out there and see what happens. I will get some pictures of the other car as well as some of the parts that go with all of this. No need to hurry I suppose.

You should also list it on our Facebook page if you can. If not, I can link to your For Sale post here for anyone who is interested.

I am thinking $15K for both and all the parts. I have many more pics and videos to share to help you decide. Just need an email address to send to.
Maybe this price is high, maybe not. Prices are all over the place. I am willing to talk to anyone to get these cars to a new home. Location is SW Missouri and you'll have to arrange to come get them or have them shipped somehow.

Can anyone on here help me? I have had very minimal interest. Is it the price? I can't even get to a negotiation. Is this a bad time for sales of cars? Should I just try locally?

Any help is appreciated.

Read through your post. Here's my two bits:

  • You have two cars but have pics here for just one of them. Show both. Show the underbody and engine bay too, they're important on these cars. You do a lot of description but there's a lot of vagueness in it (How many miles are on the block that runs? Exactly what parts and pieces do you have that are brand new? What other parts do you have?). Those are the kinds of things to add value to what you're trying to sell. In the end, a series of pictures and receipts will tell the story better than you or I can.
  • Do some research. See how much these cars have been selling for. Take some time to go through auction listings on various sites to see how much a car went for and in what condition. Set your price accordingly and if you're not sure, be willing to negotiate and let people know that.
  • You're not getting a lot because you don't have a price tag for it. Make a decision. I've had three occasions now dealing with people like that and after a combined month of conversation with these people, I ended up with nothing. No one's going to spend their time on that and you shouldn't expect that either. You're going to have amounts all over creation suggested to you. The question you need to ask yourself is what is it worth to you and how much do you feel is fair. I've seen rust-free SV's go for 3K and I've seen them go for 15K. Yours having accident damage might affect the value. Missing bumpers, no hub, damaged turn signal... there are a few things I'm just throwing out there and there's probably a lot more but without pics, it's a mystery and if I'm spending money, I don't want mysteries, I want clarity.
  • Consider updating this post with more pictures and an asking price. Set high if you want and negotiate down. 15K for what you're asking might be a great deal, I just can't see it because you're not showing it to me. You're the seller, show us.

And good luck!

Here are additional pics of the Green car. I also have videos to share, not sure how to upload those.
