1725 Cylinder Head

...bolt on after any resurfacing, if not done already. usable as in, does not require addition prep such as welding of eroded water jackets or severe broken ring damage which I'm told, imposes dubious smooth-running interruptions. I see many heads around for sale that are severely pitted from suffering catastrophic ring failure. I consider those type of heads unusable due to extreme repair cost to make usable. Expert aluminum welders are expensive.

I have a good set of valves. I'll replace seats/guides if necessary.

I have a 67 Alpine in rough shape. If the motor can be resurrected, then I will likely invest more to restore the vehicle re body, paint, interior etc.
The head gasket failed on #4 plus the head had its last shave since the side cover bolts would be left with partial fastener thread removal syndrome.
It's done, must replace. It had a very long a respectful life. RIP.

If I'm able to visualize a path to reasonable engine restoration, then i would build a second motor. I would want a head now that is good enough to be used on a new short block for instance, ideally. Not many usable hillman 1725 aluminum cylinder heads around these days.

Have you had any luck with a cylinder head ? Where are you located? I've got a couple in storage one of which I was going to use on my 1725 but I've decided that it's not necessary to do so. It's one of the heads that have the spark plug slot instead of the tubes. I can dig it out and send some pictures if you're still looking.

I'm interested. Please provide a photo of the bottom (combustion) side. I would prefer the late model "cave" sparkplug cavity version over early model tube style. I'm located in the San Diego area (Coronado 92118). Please provide a cost including shipping.

mbmcmahan, not to interrupt a transaction, but it looks like

you are only a few miles (at most) from "Smitty's"

One of the Larger collections of Used Alpine parts I know of!

PM me for contact info. DW

Copy that, I know Smitty. Most (if not all) of his cylinder heads need welding work done for which he is expert not to mention expensive and rightly so as its a valuable skill to have. My original head has had its last shave...

When I was going to use this head , a trip to the machine shop was in the plans, it's got plenty of room to be "shaved" I don't remember much else about it. It is the style you're looking for, no plug tubes. Give me a couple days to round it up.

Hi, joining this chat late. Is there a non plug tube head available? I have a 66’ and have oil leaking on to plug from somewhere adding up around the plugs.

From my experience most of the tube heads collect oil in them. I have the above mentioned head still available I can send pictures
If you PM me your email address.

Looks like its a late SV head. But there's just a chance it came off an Alpine GT fastback. The intake ports are narrower on the GT than on a SV. There's also the part #.

Also, the valve springs are different in the late S-V heads (fatter & shorter) than the early heads.
