    Battery Wiring

In the later series V, the negative ground cable from the battery connects to a bolt on the battery box. The positive cable enters the cabin just above the floor behind the seats, goes towards the left side of the car and then runs towards the engine bay along the outside edge of the floor and...

For the bumper mounting bolts grommets that seal the bumper bolt spacers, you can use Sunbeam Specialties RG50 grommets. Mike

    1st time valve adjustment

I measured the head parts of a starting handle for another member in the past. Dug out that info below. Handle diameter (A): 0.628" (probably was 5/8" without paint) Length of cross pin (B): 1.10" Diameter of cross pin (C): 0.22" Center of cross pin to handle end (D): 0.68" Width of tapered...

    No spark frustration

As I am always curious, I did some analysis of the aftermarket starter solenoid I have that appears identical to Paul67's starter solenoid. It appears to be a decent replacement for the stock Alpine starter solenoid. It has the extra connector to support the cold weather starting circuit - the...

    Clutch won't disengage

I believe the rod length won't matter much to some degree, as the plunger resting place inside the clutch slave will move forwards or backwards accordingly. It would be an issue if the rod was so short the plunger ended up getting pushed out the end of the clutch slave. I thought I had read on...

    Clutch won't disengage

Clutch engaged does create a slight drag on the engine. After starting the car in gear with the clutch engaged, he is not able to leave the clutch engaged and go into another gear? Clutch rod moving more than an inch might be too much? Let's see what others think.

Some pictures of my series 5 boot are here: https://forum.sunbeamalpine.org/index.php?media/albums/mike-hartmans-series-v-restoration.12/page-7 Do you have the trunk curtain in place? Could you have an exhaust leak that is coming in through a hole in the firewall? As a test, you could use...

    Clutch won't disengage

Was everything working ok prior to disassemble and reassemble? Have you visually inspected how much the clutch slave rod travels when the pedal is depressed? I reused my pressure plate with a re-surfaced clutch disc with no issue. I have attached measurements of my series 5 original clutch...

    Clutch won't disengage

Did you reuse the pilot bearing or install a new one? The clutch disc could be stuck to the flywheel. That happened to me when I installed an OD gearbox, but the car was sitting for multiple months when that happened. Mike

    Gas Tank Repair/Sealant

I remember when I was researching what I would do with my tanks ... I didn't like the thought of taking a pair of tanks that are completely solid and don't have any leaks and then drilling a bunch of holes in them to clean them. It just didn't make a lot of sense to me. I'm sure they usually...

    Gas Tank Repair/Sealant

Find out how the company will do the sand blasting. Some will cut the tank open to blast and then close it back up. Some will drill a bunch of holes to blast and then close up the holes. Know what you are getting into there. I went the chemical stripping path and used POR-15 for the sealer. I'd...
