    LED headlights

Bill: Your experience with the LEDs reminds me of when I still owned my Jaguar XJ6 12 years ago, and installed a plasma headlight kit. This was a lot more complicated than "drop in" fitting, involving connecting the headlight low beam wiring into a central unit that converted the 12v into, as I...

    China to phase out coal

Last I heard, China passed the USA as the world's #1 emitter of so-called "greenhouse gases" three years ago, and currently emits 27% of the world's atmospheric pollution. At the present rate of increase, China will ADD as much pollution each year as the total emitted by Japan, and every three...

I'd also check for air leaks at the inlet manifold/head or carb/manifold joints.

    Speaking of cams

Speaking of revese-engineering: By the end of WWII, Rolls-Royce were producing the best turboject engines in the world, the Nene (5,000lb thrust) and the Derwent (the engine that powered the Gloster Meteor, the Allies' first operational jet aircraft.) . In 1945 Britain's new socialist government...

    Ride Stiffness

Sports cars of the era were generally harder riding than sedans/saloons; it was something one accepted, the same way as - in some makes - plastic slot-in windows instead of wind-up ones, and more noise. I had a Mk. IIIA Rapier in England, the last car we owned over there (sold it the day before...

    Altitude Adjustment

Many possible causes of roughness, of course, but if you suspect "altitude sickness" it would manifest itself as over-rich mixture, which would probably show up on the plugs as soot. It couldn't hurt to try smaller jets.

I did this four years or so ago and posted the pictures and instructions in the forum. I don't really know how to search for it, but someone in the club could do it for you.

    Stuck Piston Rings

If freeing the rings doesn't work, try putting a tablespoonful of motor oil - preferably a high SAE number like 40 - in the low comp. cylinder (they're all very low, I mean the one off the charts), replacing the plug, and compression testing before the oil has chance to slip down into the sump...

    Historic naval recreation

There was the additional inducement in the prospect of prize money, if your ship captured an enemy cargo or treasure vessel. The RN was surprisingly generous in distributing the booty to all hands, from the captain to the lowest seaman. Of course, the officers got the most, and the amount...

    Historic naval recreation

What is incredible is that virtually all the seamen in the RN were either "impressed men" (captured ashore by a roving band of sailors under the command of a midshipman or junior lieutenant, brought to the ship and told that this was his home for several years), convicts given the choice of...
