Alger wearing Tiger tags VIN B9470054 JAL 550014

I've heard tales of Tigers being restored with Alpine bodies because the Tiger was that far gone and there wasn't much left of the original car. What's the history/ancestry of this VIN? Edited because I was asking about why the car hasn't been TAC'd and see that the car possibly wouldn't meet...

    Positioning of driver's side mirror

A few years back, I replaced the mirrors in my bullets with convex mirrors and have them on both doors just ahead of the edge of the quarter windows. With how far I sit back, I can see both mirrors. I have a wider rearview mirror (clipped to the stock one) that I use that I can see both behind...

    Starting issue

I recently had a "new" (reconditioned) AC Delco starter do this exact same thing after my Lucas starter bit it although it was abit more violent than the OP's. Replaced it with a "new" one from the same source (Amazon) and so far it works well. Beware.

    Starter spins!

Check your wiring with the alternator, regulator, battery, etc. (assuming you're running the stock alternator) just in case a wire isn't connected or possibly damaged. Might be something as simple as that. Then check the battery at idle with a multimeter. That'll tell the tale.

    Compression test question

Here's a good question on the subject: What is considered good compression for engines with the Vizard mod?

    On mechanical fuel pumps

After just rebuilding my pump, I'll take a crack at this: The kits are incomplete. They rely on you having a solid pump to work with and lack, imo, vital parts to replace due to age and wear. Like on mine, I have a damaged metal gauze strainer and rubber bits at the bottom of the spring that...

Vacuum Advance making things work better... at idle?

What I need is to slow down, clear my head and do things in steps. I keep getting in my own way lol. And fwiw, what I thought the original timing of the car was set at, was actually what it was set at. Found the paperwork for it. But I got to learn how to do all of that thanks to the threads on...

    Jerking While Driving and... Stall

Been driving for almost the last week since rebuilding the fuel pump. One of the easiest things I have had to do on this car. As long as I can get parts, I'll keep running it. Have electric pumps on the shelf just in case. Choke works and the idle is down to 750 although the car is now cold...

    Compression test question

Funny you mention this. My first Alpine was a SV project from Nevada and it came with a 1494 engine bolted to an all-sync trans. Ended up acquiring a complete 1725 from Dale that was rebuilt aeons ago. To its credit that 1494 which looked like it had a grenade explode next to it still ran but...

    Spark Plug Wire Reccomendations

What options are out there that I can use on a 1725 that I could purchase from a local auto store, if any? Also, is it better to stay away from silicone or those types for our engines? This inquiring mind would like to know. Thanks gang!

Anyone know offhand what the psi and GPH is for the original glass dome pumps?

    Weber Fuel Bowl Running Empty

No. I also checked the level of the oil with the dipstick as well and I'm actually losing a bit of oil due to a Oil Cooler hose that needed a 1/8" more tightening. I have a paranoid habit of changing oil, just in case. The one odd thing I've encountered with the Glass Dome Mechanical Fuel Pump...

    Weber Fuel Bowl Running Empty

Ok, so this IS true. Thank you for verifying it! My plan is to buy a known 'Alpine appropriate' one to rebuild, swap them and then rebuild mine so I have a spare. Waiting for payday :(.

    Weber Fuel Bowl Running Empty

Absolutely sure. At idle, it runs fine. It drives fine beyond needing the RPMS to be abit higher than spec. It'll drive a mile or two and then... stall. If I prime it, I can hear the suction in the Weber. I keep priming until the suction sound stops, figuring the bowl is now full again. Drive...

    Weber Fuel Bowl Running Empty

(Continuation of a previous thread in order to focus on this particular problem.) Long story short, I've had issues with the car stalling while driving. Initially the car would stall, get too hot and it would take time for it to start up again and drive. Many things have been added, checked and...

    Jerking While Driving and... Stall

The tanks and pipes were removed, cleaned out and recoated internally. I haven't seen debris in the fuel filter or the fuel pump, so I'm assuming the tanks are fine. I'm taking my time right now to figure out why this is all happening before I tear things out. I got the rebuild kit because I...
