Hi All,

I heard that for the the late series IVs, Rootes used a new casting for the block. Is this block and numbers one of these?

Thanks for all help

Oliver, from date code and if it has 3 mains (it should , because 1725 blocks were introduced in Sept. 1965) - I would believe yes, it must be a late SIV block...

Thanks Bernd. I have been looking for such an engine for a while and found this rebuilt unit on ebay.

Cheers!

Lucky find and a good base if you are looking for a warmed up 1600 engine...
The owner said it 'had been rebuilt some time ago at great expense' I know that doesn't mean anything but at £750 I thought it worth the gamble as a good core unit. It has storage rust but the internals appear lubricated.

It looks like an original Rootes replacement engine. The metal plate should tell you which oversizes have been used. Ask me how I know. My S1 also has a similar one with 1600cc.
P.S. One day I met an original S1 owner over here and he told me almost all 1500cc died on the Autobahn, so he also got a "warranty upgrade" to 1600cc after an engine failure in those early days :)
