I assumed when a car was issued a CA state ID# they removed the original VIN plate and replaced it with a state plate?

It must have been a real enthusiast who owned it back before 1990. I don't think I've ever seen someone retrofit early softtop panels onto a SV. And the LAT hood, the faux LAT wheels, added backup lights, full gauges, including a IV/V temp gauge....

Yeah those look different on the wheels. Plus it owes 433 in back fees to the DMV. I wanted to look at the car but it was a couple hours round trip.
Typically Calunicornia wants two ID numbers and possibly the motor number was different. Can someone please copy the pictures I'm in a slow ISP area.

The state may not have known about the VIN on the block and chose the SAL as the 2nd number.

1-2.jpg The title lists a CA ID and not the Alpine VIN nor the SAL number. It's likely there's a door jamb CA ID. There's a 15% buyer's premium plus sales tax so more like an 8000 dollar car.

Probably a SAOC decal. It doesn't look like either of my old Bay-area Sunbeam Alpine Club decals.

Can't make out the passenger side decal at all
