Series III radiator questions

Never saw a brake booster there before.

Yea.. it was done before the car was mine..
I have later learned it is installed opposite the normal side.
Never been thrilled by the performance either.. I sometimes get varying brake boost during a stop depending I believe on engine vacuum

First chance to get a real drive in the Alpine since installing the re-coreed radiator..
Temperature gauge never even got to half.

Ran into a sharp looking 64 Tiger at a Chicagoland car show..
I've seldom seen other Alpines or Tigers since getting mine 2 years ago.

What was the temperature gauge reading? Just wondering if something might be off.

It got to about 170 after about 40 minutes of highway speeds, but it is still cool in Chicagoland (upper 30s on the way out and mid 50s on the way home)

The original radiator would read about 200 or a touch over on warmer days

My series V temp is solid in cooler weather. The temp will slowly increase in warmer weather when idling. It will be interesting to see how your setup works in warmer weather. Have you checked the accuracy of your temperature gauge reading using an infrared laser thermometer? E.g. check the temp of the thermostat housing and the upper radiator hose where it is attached to the radiator and compare that to the gauge reading.

No, dont have one and havent checked, but will keep an eye on the temp as the driving season progresses.

My primary reason for the re-core was that the old one was progressively leaking more, but the better performance is a bonus.

If it was leaking.. Then Yes you needed a fix.
As for the temp gauge... Notoriously inaccurate when old...
Should check it via infrared gun.. Aim at the temp sender and check v gauge reading.

Also the senders can go bad or be worng calibration for the gauge.
