It should be noted that Embassy Black evolved into a special order color by the time the SV was in production. Any color from the Rootes color wheel was available by special order for customers willing to pay the extra cost and wait the extra time for delivery. All cars with special order colors received that color code identification on the vehicle data inspection plate (no exceptions). This hold true based on registry findings and factory worker interviews. For example: We know that the Works Cam-tail race cars were painted code 86 Forest Green. These are Series II Alpines with color code 86 on the data tag. We also have documented examples of code 26 Pipin Red (a Rapier color) appearing on Alpines by special order. It’s also known that customers might request a special color through a dealership’s paint shop or paint the car after delivery from the factory them selves. This is not considered original factory paint. Special order paint was rare to say the least and this list should be considered a standard without deviation.

It should also be known that cars built near or during a transition period, series change, are appearing on the registry with paint offered on the next series run. Example: Late series II Alpines built after January of 1963 have appeared with code 68 Autumn Gold, which wasn’t officially introduced until the S3 announcement.

We have no documented proof that shows the availability of custom interiors at this time. It is, however, known that there are anomolies. For example: In one case we have expert documentation of a S3 GT with code 68 Autumn Gold paint that was factory fitted with black interior with GOLD seat piping. There are also examples of coarse grain Tiger interior vinyl being installed into SIV and SV Alpines. This also holds true for Tan interiors on Embassy Black SIV and SV Alpines. By this time Embassy Black had become available by special order and Tan was used in at least one reliable example. Special order interiors were rare to say the least and this list should be considered a standard without deviation.

Interesting. Most of the Polar or Arctic White SV's I've come across, including my own #108, had neither red seats nor red carpets.

I thought by late series V the black interior was standard unless ordered otherwise.

For tigers at MkIa ( same period as sv) they went to black for all
