Hi all. Looking for a Clutch master kit. For my 64 S3GT. Sunbeam Specialist list a HK35 and a HK56. Tried checking with my vin BC49201606 but it dosent seem to match the ones listed on their site. Any thoughts? Thanks Tony.
It's very possible that the car does not have the original size master on it or maybe one that was not intended for an Alpine. That's why Sunbeam Specialties sells adaptors and various size lines. Changes have been made. We recently made a change on the Harrington.Tony,
According to this website and other sources, the VIN for a S3 Alpine should be B9200001 to B9205863. The VIN you listed (BC49201606) for your S3-GT has a couple of extra characters. Removing the "C4" would leave B9201606 which is a "valid" S-3 VIN. No idea why your S-3 VIN plate would have the extra characters; perhaps the VIN plate was incorrectly replaced at some point or perhaps a Canadian Province required the extra characters for some reason. Or perhaps ......
Your post indicated a clutch master KIT, not a clutch master cylinder. According to the SS website / catalog:
HK35 is a clutch master cylinder repair KIT for Series Alpines with a VIN up to B9204717 which includes B9201606.
HK56 is a clutch slave cylinder repair KIT for Series Alpines with a VIN up to B9204717 which includes B9201606 (as well as from B9204718 & ALL SERIES IV).
I have never had much luck rebuilding master or slave cylinders, but for about $25 and a little time, it is worth a try.
I had one sleeved by Apple Hydraulics (https://www.applehydraulicsonline.com), who are only about 20 minutes from me. They said the problem with our masters is that the reservoir extends below the piston and you have to cut out the bottom of the reservoir to drill the base of the sleeve to let fluid flow though to the bottom. They did that and then soldered the bottom back on.
