Remove the master from the car, disassemble and measure the bore diameter. Then call one of the parts supplier and buy the correct size kit

Tony,

According to this website and other sources, the VIN for a S3 Alpine should be B9200001 to B9205863. The VIN you listed (BC49201606) for your S3-GT has a couple of extra characters. Removing the "C4" would leave B9201606 which is a "valid" S-3 VIN. No idea why your S-3 VIN plate would have the extra characters; perhaps the VIN plate was incorrectly replaced at some point or perhaps a Canadian Province required the extra characters for some reason. Or perhaps ......

Your post indicated a clutch master KIT, not a clutch master cylinder. According to the SS website / catalog:

HK35 is a clutch master cylinder repair KIT for Series Alpines with a VIN up to B9204717 which includes B9201606.

HK56 is a clutch slave cylinder repair KIT for Series Alpines with a VIN up to B9204717 which includes B9201606 (as well as from B9204718 & ALL SERIES IV).

I have never had much luck rebuilding master or slave cylinders, but for about $25 and a little time, it is worth a try.

One thing which I do when rebuilding is to have then sleeved....they last a LOT longer!!!

If you are in So Cal, I recommend KARP'S in Upland Calif.

It's very possible that the car does not have the original size master on it or maybe one that was not intended for an Alpine. That's why Sunbeam Specialties sells adaptors and various size lines. Changes have been made. We recently made a change on the Harrington.

Do you have a photo of your current clutch master? If it is original or looks original and you want to keep the original appearance, I'd go with Bruce's recommendation and send it out to be sleeved and rebuilt.

FYI,
I recently sent six clutch masters off to be sleeved and White post contacted me to say that due to the bore diameter and the thickness of the walls they could not sleeve them.

Were they original Alpine clutch masters? White Post Restorations did a clutch master off a series 4 Alpine for me in Nov 2017.

They were used cylinders that either came off of cars that I parted out over the years or may have been in piles of Sunbeam parts that I bought. Some had larger lines fittings. I doubt that they were factory original pieces and were probably replacement cylinders that may be 40 or 50 years old. They looked OK on the outside and no pits on the inside so I sent them. I've had some sleeved before with no problems. I've talked to others that have encountered this..

I had one sleeved by Apple Hydraulics (https://www.applehydraulicsonline.com), who are only about 20 minutes from me. They said the problem with our masters is that the reservoir extends below the piston and you have to cut out the bottom of the reservoir to drill the base of the sleeve to let fluid flow though to the bottom. They did that and then soldered the bottom back on. It looks a little funky underneath, but no one but me would ever know. Still, I can certainly see where others wouldn't want to bother with them. Unfortunately, I have never gotten around to installing the rebuilt one, so I can't say how good a job they did. It is on my list of things to do. Maybe this summer.

Jim,
That could be why mine were sent back to me without being sleeved. I never looked inside but I know Doug mentioned that the low mileage car I posted photos of a few weeks ago had a clutch master that had been sleeved and he had a few problems with it.

Like most of my stuff, the master (and a slave I also had them sleeve) are currently somewhere in the garage that is packed with everything we own while the house is being rebuilt. I'll dig them out and install them as soon as I can and report back.

Jim,

My guess is Apple forgot to drill the hole in the sleeve before they installed the sleeve.

They told me they'd have to cut out the bottom before they started work, so they definitely didn't forget. But, that does raise the question why the couldn't just drill out the sleeve first. I don't know the answer to that.

I just double checked my White Post sleeved series 4 clutch master with an inspection mirror and the reservoir "can" bottom is unmolested.
