Its been raining and cold in So. Cal. so boredom forced me to rattle things.

Just to be clear Lurkers are persons who do not sign in and/or post content. So let's add to the listings of naughty, nice , can't spell, can't capitalize and forgot how to spell Jensen. If you want to bad mouth me try to be accurate and don't go Ad Hominen and stick to the facts.

As for a warp drive that'd be great, maybe not self driving though.

I say to my board of directors all the time guys who add content are the fuel of the forum even bad train wreck content . Don't think because they are members elsewhere they are not valuable. Sure I enjoy this forum but not once has a item sold from this venue. I also ask often to admit officers and directors from other clubs to be granted reciprocity.

Now back to the thread we had 2 So. Cal. V-6 cars show up at our Dyno Day and be featured in out newsletter. We also had an Alger with a Volvo front end parts and a C-4 . The key here is play together nicely. Tiger world is leaning back towards stock or more like modify but retain and be able to put it back. A stock Tiger if you believe the factory had 165 BHP not a whole lot more than a Alpine given the added weight. Lot's of things wrong with the cars especially the Pinto like bad fuel fillers and cross over tubes and lines. These cars scream please modify me for your own sake...

Got any info on the V6's that showed?

Were they 2.8's?

That is what I've been working on for the past few years...

Now "SOON", hoping to have the 4.0 to brag on a bit.

Interesting. So in your mind, a Factory Five Cobra, as well as any of the knockoffs of the '80's, are as much a Cobra as Shelby's originals?

Bill

I wonder how the AC Ace / Bristol people feel about "original" Cobra's.

Could they possibly see the "original Cobra" as an abomination with giant oversize wheels / tires, huge fender flares, different steering system (yes, Shelby quickly changed from a worm & sector steering system to a rack & pinion system) and 500 HP?

Cars always get modified / improved and what is an abomination to some becomes an icon for others.

Just my thoughts; YMMV.

Barry, the Ace was no longer an "Ace". It had been transformed into a Cobra. Very good example of what I am talking about.

Watch yourself

Here goes the Ad Hominen attacks that are total BS. Sorry I won't be joining the pick a fight here crowd.

I have sold hundreds of AC housings and Sunbeam parts with only one whiner. Forget about the hundreds of other hobby toy parts as well.

I owned 3 Alpines but sadly they were/are rolling parts supplies.

I have now a 64 Bug 64 Falcon conv't a 65 Delux Ranchero, a 64 and 65 Tiger, a 67 MGB, a 69 Westy. My favorite was a 3.0 Csi I brought back from Italy in 84. If I had that BMW today it'd get mods as 225 advertised HP in a 2850 lb car is kind of pokey nowadays.

If I can bag this Alpine that's local that can be saved I will save it and loose the Morris always in Garage. That's just a play with words as I have no gardener, plumber painter or mechanic.

I am interested in your comments

about the Alpines with the V6 engines that showed up?

Were they 2.8's?

Any of them belong to members here on the Forum?

Just curious about them and I like to learn from all !

Both

Dan one was a 2.6 and one was a 2.8 . I wrote an article at the direction of the Tiger Tales editor . If you'd like I will email you a snippet or at least the Dyno results. I believe Kelly M. has a 2.8 and it's a very nice car and has the larger numbers. I don't recall the other owner's name but the car was a burnt orange metal flake car with Alfa wheels as I recall.

I forgot the Volvo 122S I used to own and daily drove as not much fit into trunk or back seat. Great car simple and had a really cool roll up or down radiator air blocking shade much like a window shade.

That's funny I re read a comment "watch yourself if you buy from him". That may be good advice as no one really needs to own a play vehicle or anything I sell, but we think we do.

My thing is a old play car or vehicle or collectable toy won't get mad if you come home with another. The last is a loose adaptation from the old 99 ways a beer is better than a woman. "A beer won't get mad if you come home with another beer on your breath."

Hi Warren,

Both of the engines in these Alpine are 2,8 V6's. The dyno operator didn't really get the maximum results form either Alpine, as he only took the engines to 5,500, when they make power until at least 6,500 and beyond. The graphs show a steady acending power line to where he stopped, without and dips in power. The power line was still rising when he stopped the pulls. I don't know why he stopped so early, but the graphs were very impressive. I feel if he'd continued to at least 6,500, he'd have gotten another 10 hp out of them.

I'd be happy with that dyno operator.... He probably listened to the engine, heard it running hard and said... Let's stop here , it's climbing but better to stop early than bits on the ground...

I remember the first dyno run I did in the tiger .. I told them not to go beyond 5,800... They pulled 6,400. The power dropped off at 6,200. I pointed out they went well beyond what I instructed .. their response...It was still climbing.... My response.. you want to pay for a rebuild.. their response.... No you signed the waiver it would be your issue.... Next dyno place I gave written instructions on what RPM and made the. Sign it before running the car.

just to be clear no slight intended... I have owned a 2.8 and tinkred with a couple other V6 cars. they go like stink stupid fast well balanced. I have also played with a stock block Alpine or three that were nice movers.. sold a few Alpine motors that I built myself... once got a call from a historic race asking if I built that cheater motor.. so have been there done that... my own stock block Alpine needed a tear down once a year to shall we say freshen them.. usually a head issue until I figured that out... so you got a driver

Etc.

I asked all participants to give me a 50 word or less build history. While I have since tossed the participants 50 words or less car info sheet I asked them to write and much got cut by the edits. I know for a fact that one car was a 2.8 and I recall the burnt orange car was and a 2.6

I usually have a pornographic memory for figures and numbers and both participants didn't respond back when I had my printing deadline. I sent on the article to Dan and I have permission to do so from my editor. They did tell me no cross posting to online forums.

I'm with Mike these guy's at Superior are pro's and while we did not have a waiver they do it for a living and probably know their equipment and what to expect from your car especially after their questions on what are you packing under the hood. A few guy's one of them, Dale A. decline to let his car get a rough run up on a dyno as he claims it's one of the hardest things to do on a drive train.

The article is available by email request. I'm guessing that Dan and Jose have already shared the numbers. I recall most of the specs on the motors although they are not all in the article by editors choice.

No problem Jim...

Hi Warren,

Both of these Alpines are owned by friends of mine, They both are using one of my kits to convert them. The kit will only fit the Ford Cologne 2.8 V6. I have ridden in Kelly's Alpine and have seen the other one at Kelly's place, when we had a Sunbeam get together at Kelly's place about three years ago. I wouldn't have posted something if I didn't know what the facts are. Anyone can make a mistake, but when someone says he knows exactly what the facts are, then you should believe them.

Hi Michael,

I can understand the concern you said the operator may have had, but these engines are red lined at 6,000 rpm by the factory, stock. I used to rev my V6's to 7,000 at every shift when I raced them. I power shifted at that rpm, and never had a problem with any of my engines. I broke transmissions, rear ends and U-joints when racing, but never broke any of the engines I raced; even my turbocharged V6 Alpine. If it had been me, I would have told the operator to take it to 6,500 before letting up on it.

These little engines don't show any distress when revd to 7,000, so taking them to 6,500 wouldn't be a problem. At that rpn, they just sing.

Sorry mate, I haven't met you know nothing of you but what I've read here. I was just saying that's not what I recall. I paid much more attention to Kelly's car as she was much prettier. I don't know which car has who's kit or who's engineered anything together. I said I asked them for more for the article and got zero responses. Ive seen other V-6's and again tossed my notes that the owners provided.

Really, I am equal opportunity guy and would rather see the cars restored resto modded and not beat to pieces as donor's.

Respectfully it's a discussion forum with some good information scattered in with opinions memories and infighting between the members. I think that was the O.P's starting point.

Should we have another So. Cal Dyno day please come or have your pal's come and wind the snot out of their beasts. If bragging rights are more important then the good judgement of the dyno operator it's fine with me. I dyno'ed my car once 2 years ago and that was plenty. Sure I could probably tweak the rev limiter more and see how much more I could get, but it's no fun shoving 10 lbs of motor into 7 lb sack sized engine bay. I have too many other project cars to fix already.
