Zenith Stromberg Carb leaking...

Carb Leak

Well, he is talking about a series V, and they are Strombergs made by Zenith and it isn't the first time I've heard them called Zenith Strobergs so I would suspect he's talking about CD 150s?

Anyway, sealing the float bowl won't cure the problem. If the float isn't set right or if the float needle isn't seating, then the leaking float bowl, if sealed up, will just find the gas going somewhere else worse IMOH.

Also, the WSM has a decent section on the carburetors and I think the old Haynes manual for Webers has a fair bit on the Stombergs.

However, just to take the worry out, Eric, maybe you could post a picture of the culprit Carb.

My money is still on the English Mechanic messing the float levels.

I have zenith stromberg CD 150...I wasn't aware I should be refering to them as strombergs...when I google "zenith stromberg cd 150" information of my carbs are all I get from my query. Sorry about the confusion...thats why I posted in factory original because these are the carbs I see on most original series 5s.

As DanR pointed out we have the workshop manuals under the website's Tech Data tab.

The WSM 145 Fuel section describes the CD150's. Direct link (see page 45):

OK so these are actually stroms as most had assumed...

Your problem most likley will be float/needle/seat related if the gasket is weeping. Stroms have a vent hole on the air cleaner side of the carb where the fuel will dump if the bowl overflows.

It was specified that if you are running electric fuel pump, stroms dont like the higher pressure. You are running the stock mechanical pump right?
If not, you will need a regulator or use the stock mechanical pump.

Stock fuel pump…I guess my problem is most likely the float levels and after reading the manual on this site…it looks like I will have to remove the carb because it appears to need to be inverted for adjustment.

Too bad I didn't have a rotisserie setup then I could leave the carb on the car:)

Thanks for all your help…these cars are hard to keep factory original.
