Wrong Pertronix from SS

I bought a Pertronix Ignitor and Flamethrower coil from Sunbeam Specialties several years ago but didn't install it at the time since I had other engine issues. I fixed the other problems and since my SV is running, I decided to go ahead and install the Ignitor. It wouldn't fit, no matter what I did so I checked to see if I really had the correct unit. Turns out that I was given an 1821 unit which according to Pertronix is designed for a Mercury. I see from their catalog that the SV part number is LU-142A. The box from SS has an SS sticker on it, indicating that it's for a SV Alpine. Was this 1821 unit actually used on an Alpine at one time, or did I just get a completely incorrect unit from them?

Looks like SS ordered from Pertronix and Pertronix sent the wrong one, SS put their Alpine sticker on it, put it on their shelf, and when you ordered they shipped it to you. Or maybe SS once ordered a Pertronix for a Mercury and it got labelled wrong by them.

But no doubt it's the wrong one. Hopefully SS will straighten it out.

LU-142A is the correct unit. An earlier unit, LU-142 will work but the distributor orientation is slightly different than the usual "stock" placement.

This unit is for the four cylinder Alpine engine with a 25D distributor.

I don't see an 1821 Pertronix unit for any Mercury. Perhaps the numbers were inverted and should have been 1281. The 1281 unit would be appropriate for a Sunbeam Tiger.

My error. Yes, the box says 1281. And Rick just got back to me indication I must have gotten a Tiger version by mistake. Looks like it will get corrected. Thanks, guys!

Nice catch, Paul. I looked up Mercury in the catalog and thought I saw 1821. Shoulda seen it was 1281 and for a V8 , woulda been a clue that it was for a Tiger!
