Looking for one or two trunk hinges. One of mine is stripped. UGH!

They're available new from either Classic Sunbeam or Sunbeam Specialties.
I was hoping to avoid the large price tag on Sunbeam Specialties but haven't checked Classic Sunbeam yet. Thanks for the tip! *** Both are the same price. I was hoping to find a better deal here. ***

Sort of a false economy... Most SH ones are pitted or the threads in the posts are stripped or cracked and need a helicoil.

Unless you want avg quality or some you have to rechrome its better to buy the repros.

A very good set of originals are probably not that much cheaper after you take into account refinishing.

That's sound advice. Thank you!

The hinges tend to work loose mainly due to the gaskets. There are rubber gaskets available but do not use them. Everything tends to move around. The depth of the threads is very shallow and the threads tend to wear out for that reason and the opening becomes larger and then requires re drilling and tapping. Keep in mind that you're dealing with the equivalent of pot metal. You may not have enough meat to get a good opening that will hold. I have a couple sets where folks have used metric bolts and these are good paper weights.

Are the reproduction hinges correctly handed now? When first made, they were not and the fit was bad. Eric

Yes and they have been going back to the hinges installed on Jean's blue car back in 95. Don't know much prior to that.
