The paint that I fogged my Alpine with called for applying the clear coat while the base coat was somewhat tacky. Is that the best practice or a labor saving practice? Will the base coat have to be prepped for the top coat?
Bill
I’m not a painter but I believe applying clear while the base is tacky is common practice

You know, if you were a couple days drive closer to me I might just do that...on the other hand, you’ve seen what a pest I’ve been by telephone...imagine how it would be if I were there asking dumb questions all the time!

Looking good there Bill!
Dan - don't know if you noticed the battery box...we modified and re-sized it along the lines of your suggestions...plenty of room for the dual exhaust and a Group 24 Optima battery drops right in...it's really the only practical solution for an early series car anyway....the trunk area on early cars just doesn't easily lend itself to a battery mount without giving up a lot of space.

I'm glad you took my suggestion. I tried all sorts of modifications before I came to this one. Works great! Even the Tiger's / Alger's / Other V8's could benefit with this MOD. Sure provides lots more trunk space too:)

Bill/Dan - What are the dimensions of the modified battery box? After almost a year of life getting in the way, I'm back to work on my project and am coming to the point of having to make a decision on how best to route the exhaust. A smaller box sounds like a great solution.

Bill/Dan - What are the dimensions of the modified battery box?
Dan and I took slightly different approaches...I believe he cut a triangular section out of the drivers side of the box to get clearance for the exhaust.
In my case the original box was rusted beyond repair so we built an entirely new one. The dimensions we used are 11” long x 8 1/2 “ wide and 9 1/2 “ deep...we also pushed it as far as we could toward the passenger side of the car...all kinds of room for the exhaust now.
These dimensions will accommodate a Group 24 battery.

Finally starting some assembly...the suspension is on all around and the steering column is in. DanR supplied the electric power steering unit...took me a while to get it all figured out but I think we are there!
