Steering Wheel Removal

Hi, does anyone know how to get the steering wheel off of the splines of a SV adjustable column ? I've removed all of the fittings as per the WSM and this thing is on there, I've tried some penetrating oil but to no avail. It seems far to fragile to beat on.

Derek you are right - they are fragile.

Perhaps a puller of some sort?

I used a rubber hammer to beat the one on the parts car into submission but don't recommend it.

That was after weeks and weeks of soaking with penetrating oil...

If it doesn't wiggle a bit sit to side as you pull on it then you'll need to use a puller. Make sure to thread the nut on to protect the threads of the column before using it though. And don't hook to the bottom of the wheel itself as it's only plastic, hook to the metal arms since inside they attach to the center portion.

Sit in the car, and gripping the rim with both hands, pull the wheel firmly towards you. Get someone to give the shaft a few sharp taps with a hammer but leave the nut on to protect the threads. I would recommend that you try this before using a puller.

Thanks

:) Just a Thanks for the replies and to let you know of my solutionn.. I used all of them. I put a split bearing puller behind the wheel, applied some lisht tension and just as with hub removal gave the bolt a tap with a hammer.. The wheel popped right off.
