Anyone have a good method for installing the steering column firewall gasket without removing the steering column?

Hi, If you remove the steering column parts that are inside the cabin of the car you should be able to put the gasket ring on the column and work it down and into position engaging the lip with a small screwdriver without undoing the connections to the relay arm etc.
On our cars we add additional sound proofing on the firewall inside the car when doing the final trimming and we add further additional soundproofing around the column itself inside the original firewall gasket. The aim being to completely seal and separate the under bonnet area from the cabin and thereby reduce noise (or fumes, smells etc.)

Never tried it before, but maybe the way you install glass in a windshield frame. Put a thin rope in the groove of the grommet, press it against the firewall and have someone gently pull the rope through the hole on the engine side.
