Spongy Brake Pads?

Pikes Peak is a much more realistic scenario as we've driven up (and down) it in the Alpine and it definitely has potential to give the brakes a workout. We've been around the Winchester Speedway, but under very controlled conditions that precluded any braking. That track is so short, banked and fast, I don't think there is any time to hit the binders. Putnam Park, don't see how that could ever be arranged, although it could probably fry the Alpine brakes. It seems these pads are strictly street pads, racing conditions turn them into ashes. It is much easier (and cheaper) to run out to Colorado, spend a day going up and down the Mountain than to get any hot laps (which I'm no longer capable of) on either of the tracks.

The track record for Winchester is over 140 mph, which is incredible on a half mile oval. We looked at Putnam Park for Invasion V. $20,000 per day. We were expecting 40 - 50 cars. As the Brits might say, not good maths. Beautiful facility, wish we could have made it happen. It would have made a hell of an Invasion!

My Blue Boy brakes are still spongy! Seems as if I need to try your solution, Akebono?

Yep. Not exactly a household word, is it? It will be interesting to learn if they had a pad for the Alpine. My brakes are GM Metric up front and Miata rear. Everybody stocks those two!
