Does anyone have a picture of what the original center soft top handle looks like for the Series 1 Alpine? Thanks.

Are you talking about the center metal cover? if so on my series 2 it is just a cable that goes from one side to the other.

If it's the pull handle for the soft top storage cover, I think it was a leather handle. I wonder if there is a picture in the parts catalog.

Jan all the SI's i had seen and in the press shots seemed to use a chrome handle the same as used on the boot (trunk) lid.

Whats the leather handle/strap you have look like?

As a side note.. Yes the series II went to a pull cable with 2 round holes and eyelets aboit 30mm that the cable goes through to the back of the panel.

. For the series 3 / IV they made a recess area for the cable that was much neater allowimg the cable to run straight.

Jan is right. The Series 1 had a leather strip acting as a pull handle on the center soft top storage cover. Nobody is offering them.I cutted mine from thick piece of black leather when I restored my car. Without being able to take accurate measurements at this very moment would say it's around 4" long and has around 1/2" height . Furthermore it has rounded corners and is mounted with 2 countersunk set screws w recessed washers ( don't know the actual English word for them) at each end. May be able to take a picture later...

If the original was leather, I might be able to match it up with something. I found a lot of leather straps used for restoring old trunks on line. like this maybe?

Welcome. It took me also a bit of research when I restored my car. If you have the proper S1 Center cover panel there should be already holes at the screw positions which enables you to determine the proper length of that leather strip.

This is the design that I settled on. A little fancier, but I liked it. I'll replace the rivets with chrome "finish washers".
