Rebuilding the Clutch Master and Slave Cyl

It seems that my clutch cylinders need to either be replaced or rebuilt on my SV. Has anyone done this, and is it simple, or should I attempt to buy rebuilt. I cannot find a schematic on the rebuild, so I am a little apprehensive on doing it myself. Any suggestions?

Clutch Master Rebuild

The clutch master cylinder is pretty straight forward to rebuild. The kit will sometimes come with a diagram but if it doesn't simply lay the parts out in order as you take them apart. There's only a few pieces.

(Digital camera will help if your memory is short)

1) A c-clip ring retains everything. If you don't have a C-clip plier go to Sears - it will make the job much easier.
Alternative is to order a set... these guys are cheap - http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=92374
Harbor Freight isn't great quality but most of the time it will do the job and come in handy in the future. (Their folding engine hoist is great... too bad they don't offer free shipping anymore)

2) Once you have layed out all the components look inside the bore for pitting. It will have to be polished out.

I found one website - though not identical to the Lockheed MC we use - which contains some of the process. http://www.panteraplace.com/page153.htm

The alternative is to buy an MC from Rick. Technically, the MC with the proper pipe fitting for the later cars isn't available but Rick has the adapter, too.

The workshop manual contains a pretty good description of the rebuild process. It is not a difficult job. If you don't a WSM, they appear on eBay pretty regularily and aren't too much money. In the mean time, the online version is a little hard to read, but readily available. Here is the link to the relevant section: http://www.rootes1725cc.info/wsm145/wsm_d/d_05.htm
