rear view mirror

I put the RV mirror on the other day and noticed something. There is this little nub on the back of the mirror bracket arm. I don't have the windshield in yet, but it looks as though, if the mirror were to vibrate or move under, any kind of, force, that little nub would, at least take a chip out, or put a nice crack in the glass. Is there supposed to be some kind of rubber "bumper" on that nub?
Thanks
Ron

mirror buffer

sunbeam specialties part # IP63. cost around 3.50. the mirror does not touch without the buffer ,but it stops the vibration of the mirror when installed.
