Originality question: Engine plate

I've noticed that many Alpine engines have a small metal plate bolted to the front of the head. The plate has a big round opening near the top, and always seems to be black. That is one of two factory plates related to engine removal?

Was that installed on all Alpines and for most left the premises over the years?

Thanks.

Yes, there should be one in the back on the head bolt stud. The front used the studs on the front of the head. They can be seen on the later Alpines.

Originality question : Engine plate

The plate is described in the Parts Manual as a "slinging eye". On the Series 4, the petrol pipe is bolted to it using a small clip.
