On the bottom one, maybe you just hit the knockoff with it like a hammer.

Actually I think there is another slot opposite the one you can see closest to the camera,
and you 'walk' it over the 'ears' of the knockoff. Kinda one on first, then the other. Next, put the tool in firm contact with the ears, and then hit the flat spot (for tight or loose) with your hammer. The tool prevents errant impacts by 'preselecting' the impact site accurately. It also moves the hammer blows farther away from the bodywork. That matters to some people...

Ah, OK that makes sense! Moving the impact point away from the bodywork is certainly a good idea - I'm always terrified I'm gonna hit it!

I've never seen torque figures for the hubs/spinners so wack until they're tight.

"Somewhere" I read that one should wack more than just one ear, turn the wheel perhaps, and hit the next ear, and the third for 3 ear spinners. I don't know if that makes a difference, but I do it anyway.
