Isky Chromoly Pushrods

As I have a bent pushrod I figure I'll treat my SerII to a new set of Isky Pushrods. They are not an Item they stock but can make a set in about two weeks for $65. If anyone would like to order a set for themselves let me know.

Thanks

I'd make sure they make them the correct length.

A while back, Chris Albers had some made up and they came in short, and IMO rather weak. When he started his engine the first time he bent a few, only then did we discover they were short (adj screws beyond maximum).

Ive not been impressed with anything isky for the sunbeam.

The magic pushrods were as Ive said, the magic lifters weight quite a bit more than stock, and none of the cams Ive seen them do act like the specifications they claim.

Not sure using the pushrods or the lifters are worth the potential grief so caveat emptor.

So if the Isky items are NFG ( my Isky SB2 cam is working nicely by the way) and I presume that 7 of my original push rods ar OK should I just get one more from SS or a whole set of eight? From somewhere else?.

I still need a better than stock head gasket by the way.

Thanks.

I just bought a set of Isky valve springs, which give a slightly higher rate than stock and shouldn't bind up when combined with a high-lift cam. Any feedback yea or nay on those?

Sorry, I shouldnt have given an all gloom report on isky, Ive used a set of springs from them and all was well there. They were lighter than stock and had a higher rate than stock and since the wire diameter was smaller and there were fewer coils, coil bind should be very unlikely. I have a set on the engine that has 465 thou valve lift.

Isky parts

I wanted to jump in here and mention that as with any supplier of "specialized" low quantity parts you have to really check the pieces over carefully these days.

I have used Isky parts in my race car with no trouble. They used to be the standard in the day. However, I would guess they might even source their push-rods from somebody else (at least there is that possibility)

I think Jarrid's experience with Isky might be unique (it might not, too).

The key thing is to inspect your parts regardless of the supplier. There is nothing more distressing that having a quality issue with a new part in an engine freshly rebuilt.

Back in the day, I used Isky springs on two different type engines and I broke a spring on each engine. I thought that because they had a good reputation that I would have a good product, but they failed me. I would never use any of their products again.

I have never had any trouble with the stock 2.8 and 2.9 valve sporings, and I abused them all the time. They are cheaper and better than the Isky junk.

Eric:

PM me regarding the "better than stock" head gasket and I'll fill you in on some things. Or, go back and check the earlier postings on the forum from the April '08 period regarding head gaskets. I believe that this was discussed heavily earlier this year after I blew mine on my race car.

Take care,

For the record I have both a set of Isky Springs and a SB2 fast road/rally cam.

The car makes way more/usable power than it did with the stock cam profile and I've had no problems with the springs.

I do believe they make very thing there but I could be wrong.

It it's not a bad thing I'd just assume replace the bent pushrod I have with another stock one from SS. If this is advisable???

Thanks

Eric
