Intake manifold gasket

I'm in the process of getting the 2.8 ready and took off the stock intake manifold. The spot in the gasket where water port for #6 cylinder from the block to the manifold was not cut out, blocking the port. Does anyone know if this is correct and, if so, why?

Hi Thor,

The gasket does cover some of the holes that are in the heads, to control water flow. The heads have more holes than are necessary, because they are for removing the sand mold from inside the casting.

Hi Jose:

I probably should have contacted you directly right out of the gate! This is just a first in a lot of questions I have about this project.

It looks like the easiest part of the whole thing will be installing your kit.

Anyway, the gasket I took off was a one piece affair, the Offenhauser gasket is a two piece with all the holes open. I suppose it's okay to use it then.

Thanks for your help. I'll be bugging you a lot.

Hi Thor,

The Offy gaskets will work, but I recommend using Felpro gaskets. I remove the center portion and use about an 1/8" bead of silicone sealer at the front and back of the engine. The silicone will seal way better than the small pieces at the ends of the gasket. Be sure to put a dab of sealer at the four corners to make sure there is no gap between the side gaskets and the bead you laid down at the ends.

Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
