Hood release Slide and Rod (Repro by DanR)

A Hood release rod and slide connector is being fabricated at present (price pending).

Later model Alpines (SV) utilize a cable in the hood release. Cables some times break and cause much difficulty in opening the hood. Earlier Models had a rod. This is as near to original as I can get it.

I have the "slide" completed. Next, I'm attempting to finalize the rod 1/4"dia by 22" ( approximate) length. Have yet to find the "spring" near the "T" handle or the spring washer on the end with the slide.

I've found a few "T" handles so far but all have 1/4-20 thread. No problem with my new rod, just not original. Likewise with the slide end, I have square nuts 1/4-20 thread there also.

And for any of you that have spare springs and washers applicable to the Hood (Bonnet) releases, I'd be interested.

Prices are not yet confirmed with my fabricator/supplier, If interested please send me an E-mail or PM. The more interest the lower the cost. Open for suggestions.

Looks like great work!
Not sure the what the demand is going as used seem to be readily available.

Thanks Paul:D

The used ones might be available at various times but I tried to obtain a couple of the Hood/Bonnet release rods and slides several times with out success.

If I can finalize them with the springs and the pull knob they will be readily available in a "new" condition.

What the demand will be is purely speculative. Just love "tinkering".....;)

P.S. What really started me on this was I bought a "Hood/Bonnet release rod" sometime back for $20 plus shipping. When it arrived "it" was a "Hood prop rod".....A mistake was made in the bargaining by two "olde HossTraders" and the Very Nice chrome Hood Prop Rod was too nice to return.

One thing to consider for the pull knob of you find something like the original is to see if the word BONNET can be cut or stamped into it so from the cockpit side it would look more like the original cable pull versions.

I'm in agreement, Mike....

I am trying to keep it all as original as I can... The "BONNET" would be appropriate.

Thanks Mike for your comments,
