UPDATE!!

Harrington scripts...

After a few false starts and 'proper' work, I'm on it.

Some of you out there have or have seen the 3 dimensional aluminium ('aloominum' Thanks Google translation!) scripts. Courtesy of Bill Atalla I have one also. Trouble is they do not have the sloping sides of the original.

The UK is only a small island with a third world industrial base that's at least the equal of Bangladesh BUT there are islands of advanced tech floating in our sea of industrial decay and past imperialist glory.

Long story short - I have found near me a 5 axis water cutting specialist who has agreed to temporarily direct one of his $300,000 dollar machines away from making aerospace parts and prototypes to cut me some scripts. Down side is the CAD drawings will cost me $450, the scripts another $100 each approx and the chroming $70 - 120 each approx. For those of you still reading this, a script could come to $300++.

Any takers? I'm going to place a personal order of 5 whether or not there are any other orders but they won't be for resale.

I have given the go ahead to the drawing tech already. The chroming will be done by Derby plating (the best in the UK and equal to any Pebble Beach chromer) They are small, old fashioned, slow but exacting perfectionists. Delivery will be March/April God willing. I won't ask for deposits as I don't want to be chased nor have to chase my suppliers (I have enough supply chain hassle in my life already, thank you) but if you do place an order I hope you will honour it.

Please place firm orders by email only by the end of Feb.

Many thanks,

Oliver

I have some of the aluminum ones too. If you do it, make them in brass so the pins can be silver soldered on. I could have done the CAD drawing myself.

scripts

jan,
I have a couple aluminum Harrington scripts that came with the RHD LeMans when I bought it from bill. they seem to be square cut. you mentioned soldering the studs but they have holes drilled for what I would assume to be the mounting studs. are these scripts that either you or ian had made or did bill have them made?

Bob,
We have the same scripts here. I would have to TIG weld the studs from the front (which I could do here), but I prefer to have them made in brass, if possible.

Hi Jan,

They will be made in brass for the reason you gave and for better chroming.

The difficulty in the drawing is the sloped sides and drawing it in the correct format for the cutter

I'll keep everyone updated

Best regards

Oliver

Oliver, a 3d model in rhinoceros, AutoCAD, solidworks should work fine for them. Modelling a Harrington badge with some profile is very straightforward

Hi Michael,

For all I know they may be using one of those but by getting them to do the drawing the responsibility and the cost for getting it wrong stays with them.

All the best

Hi Oliver,

It has been a while and I am glad that I have a little time right now to get back on line. If you have a problem with the 3D model I will do it for you using SolidWorks. Just tell me how you make out. It is nice to see people doing this work.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew - That's a very kind offer. However the fabricators have already done so and are working on the first prototypes.

I'll let you know how they get on.

All the best and thanks once again!

Can someone please post a picture of which badge you are talking about. I might be interested but if I need it for my car.

Getting there

This is a pic of the first rough water cut in steel just to show that things are progressing. Next is to get the side angles and letter 'holes' finessed.
