A question for Aussies.

I have been watching the Australian V8 Super Car racing series on ESPN. I have really enjoyed watching it. What I would like to know is, can you buy a similar car from the local Ford or Holden dealer? Do they really come with a V8, and what is the displacement of the race engines? These cars really attract me and if I could, I would buy one for the street. These guys really put on a show, of driving skills and aggresivity. Just the way the old NASCAR drivers did at Riverside Raceway, back in the sixties.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

I'm pretty sure the latest Pontiac GTO was based on the Holden V8 at the time, not sure about the detail differences.

Hi Jose,

This years V8 supercar series has been probably one of the best for a while and I can understand why you are enjoying it. The Holden V Ford battle has been going on for eternity. Both the cars are base on a 5 litre fuel injected V8 and produce over 600 Hp. As Sunnby stated, Holden export their car, but Ford for some reason don't. The Ford Falcon that is currently racing is now the previous BF model, while the Holden is the latest VE model. We even have utility racing between these two models and they are also very agressive.

Jose,

The funny thing about the V8 supercars is they run smaller engines and different engines to their road cars.

The holdens use the Vette LS1 engines and are 5.7 and 6 litre but in the supercars use a 5 litre chevy... the fords in V8's use a pushrod 5 litre.. but the road cars run the 5.4 BOSS motors... Its scary how quick some of the road cars are now.. sub 5 sec 0-60mph times in a 2 tonne family car.
