Hello -
Just wondering if anyone can confirm that my 4 speed transmission (with the above numbers) is an original to our 1962.
Thanks!

I believe the "23 8 61" is a date code for the gearbox case - August 23, 1961. The case might have been made a bit before the gearbox was assembled. You can use your VIN to determine when your car was built. https://sunbeamalpine.org/production-build-dates/

At least then you will know if the gearbox was made before or after your car was assembled. If the gearbox date code is later than your VIN manufacture date then you know the gearbox was installed later. Don't think there is any way to prove if it came with the car.
