Just bought a 1962 Alpine. Wish to paint it the original White exterior and would like to know if anyone can supply me with a paint mix code that a paint shop will understand.
Thanks!

Hey, you found one. Great. Send me some details and pics at my email address and I'm sure we can help you with details for the restoration. If you look at the home page of the website there is information about the color codes, which I think in your case is moonstone and your id plate should have # 19 as the color code. It may have had a scarlet interior or black. The seats have piping that matches the exterior color (more or less). . Jumpin Jan has samples of the colors that you can use to match the original shade. Great news that you found what you were looking for.

The early Alpines did not have a "white" color. What is usually called white is a very light blue with a hint of gray, called Moonstone, factory color code 19. At first glance it does look white, but a second look reveals it really isn't.

Paint pigment chemistry has undergone a complete change in the past 40 years, the old paint codes mean nothing now. You might find someone that has mixed up a good Moonstone match and will share the recipe.

Probably the best option is to find an area of original paint that has not been affected by sunlight (such as inside the boot or bonnet) and use a cutting compound to remove grime and oxidation. A good bodyshop should then be able to mix you an exact match in the type of paint of your choice.

When we were looking for a sploch of original color on our Series II, we found under the rain deflectors on the top of the doors that the rubber weather seal goes up against at the "A" post, which is held on be either rivets or screws. Under that was never repainted. If you need some pictures I will be glad to send some. Just email me to "alpinebob at cox dot net.
