    Name that car....

Well, Alpines were built by Carrozzeria Touring in Italy (as were Venezias - and Super Minxes I think) Perhaps these are parts for those cars?

2013 Cars of Rootes Group calendar

The days are getting longer again downunder, which means I have started thinking about next years 'Cars of the Rootes Group' Calendar. I did the first one for 2007, so 2013 will be the 7th iteration. As in the past the plan is to produce a full colour, page-per-month, spiral bound, A4 size...

Hi all, As in past years I have organised production of a calendar featuring cars of the Rootes group. It’s A4 size (double – so you get an A4 size Car above an A4 size Month), full colour, spiral bound, drilled for wall hanging, one page per month printed on quality glossy paper. I say...

    Rootes group engine identify ?

I agree that the quality of information in Wikipedia is not always reliable and I sort of referred to that in my initial post. However, the Husky article is referenced and appears to be accurate in other respects. I'm not sure why the sales brochure should be doubted - it's a factory issued...

    Rootes group engine identify ?

Mark, While the engine number certainly indicates this block was from a Series 3 Husky, it appears that not all Series 3 Huskys had the 1390 motor. As I stated in one of my earlier posts, the original brochure and parts book for the US market Series 3 Husky state it came with a 1592 engine...

    Rootes group engine identify ?

Bob, Since my last post I contacted someone in the USA who has a period Husky Series 3 brochure, it definitely says 1592 engine for the USA. It can be hard to track down what previous owners have done with cars and why. My own Alpine Series 3 has a block from a Super Minx - same 1592...

    Rootes group engine identify ?

I know it isn't always the best reference, but according to Wikipedia, the Series 3 Husky as sold in the USA had a 1592 engine fitted, so you are likely to have a 1600 rather than a 1400. This would give a spec similar to the Series 2 to 4 Alpine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillman_Husky

    Le Mans winner for sale

I think it's easy to underestimate what the Rootes team did in 1962. Not the largest manufacturer in the UK, and certainly without the budget of other firms, they took a car based on a small commercial van with leaf springs and a hotted up Hillman motor and averaged 90 mph for 24 hours at 19...
