The November issue reviews the Bond Cars in some detail--no Alpines were pictured but got two mentions--one early on as an introduction. At the end of the article, they mentioned that the '63 Series II, Commadore Blue Alpine in Dr. No was rented locally for 10 shillings a day. There you have it. Saves buying this expensive pub.

Bill - did the article actually say that? I don't mean to nitpik, but there's a couple of things wrong here. Dr. No came out in 1962, so the car couldn't be titled as a '63, and Commodore Blue didn't arrive until late Series V production. The actual color is either Lake Blue or Wedgewood Blue. I had heard the car was rented from a local school teacher.

Dr. NO

Hey Scott,
It said exactly that--I guess that is a yes to No. At least they got the rental part correct!
Best,

Yep, another case of the Alpine being ignored (as a Bond car that is).

Actually there was another recently. Hemmings Sports Car and Exotics ran an article a month or so ago about Aston Martin stating the DB5 was the first Bond car. I sent an e-mail reminding them that the DB5 was the first modified by "M" and that the Alpine was the first car. I cited the chase in Dr No, but apparently that got ignored.

Good info Nick. Thanks. I leave this subject with the thought they cannot take away, the Alpine IS INDEED a Bond car. Hell, it's included in a number of the Bond model car collections. Much to my delight...... Recognized or not by certain opinionated sources, they can't take away the scenes of Connery driving it.

Sorry guys... as a bond nut, I have to correct this. "Q" is the gadget guru.
"M" is the Director of MI6. I share your frustration with the lack of attention given to the Alpine as the 1st Bond car.

I guess I missed that part, good point. How can we ever forget good old Q.

My fondest memories of him however, being an Esprit fan are of the Spy Who Loved Me and Q turning the car over to Bond at the dock. That was a good gadget car, I was only saddened by his use of the (ahem) highly dubious roof launched missile to shoot down the delightful (if not deadly) Carolyn Munroe. :-(
