1494 Engine

Is the block of a 1494 engine the same as the 1725 block? Could a 1494 be bored to 1725 cc and use the 1725 aluminum head? Or is it a different stroke?

The main difference between the 1494, 1592 and 1725 blocks are the main bearings, 3 vs 5.
As far as boring it accept a 1725 piston, you'd have to know how much rear is in the bores
of your 1494 block. I have a 1592 that's just about finished and we used +.30 1725 pistons
as they're not that different than the 1592. You need to measure the bores and determine
how much cylinder wall you have left.

The 1592 and 1725 share the same bore but the 1725 had a 5 main crank and a longer stroke. Iirc the concern for stroking the 3 main 1592 to 1725 was vibration.

A 1494 could be bored to 1592.. But the 1494 cranks were known to fail and spin bearings.. hence the first 1592 alloy head motors used the forged cranks. This was dropped in series 3 as it was deemed over kill. Iirc the 1494 also used smaller main bearings.

You could make a 1494 into a 1592 but it would be advisable to also switch to a 1592 crank.

As for the heads a 1725 head bolts right on.. The 1725 head had a very marginally larger combustion chamber... But by now it would be skimmed enough to negate that.. As would the overbore to go from 1494 to 1592. Another advantage of a 1725 head is larger valves than the 1494
