A boring question about old weatherstrip adhesive

I’m replacing the outer weatherstrip (w/s) on the passenger door side of the windshield. My question is about the old w/s adhesive. How much of this stuff do I need to try to remove before adhering the new w/s? It doesn’t come off easily, even with Goo Gone. Do I need to remove it all? Only the high spots?

Hate to say this, but yeah, it's all gotta go. You can try a more aggressive solvent - like lacquer thinner or MEK - but be VERY careful not to get it on a painted surface. Alternatively you could warm it with a heat gun on a low setting to start with... that may get it soft enough to remove more easily.

Use a heat gun and a small scraper to get the bulk of it off. Then lacquer thinner or
another solvent to remove the residue that might be left.
