Some of the modern panel adhesives are supposed as good or better than welding. I keep telling myself I'm going to try one, someday...

Was once given a "field" car. Those of you country boys know what that means. Had been sitting out something like a dozen years behind a barn. Was so rusted the hood folded in two when I opened it. 3/4 of each door was gone from rust. I did get a set of good glass, a Rootes replacement 1725 engine and some other odds and ends. Not a body panel on the whole thing worth cutting loose and keeping. Now that was a rusty Alpine.


Have used the adhesive 10 years now no problems!

Tim R . Very nice work . The ribbed floors are real nice . I wanted to go that way. I almost bought some universal floor pans for EMS but after cutting all the rusted floors out of my car and seeing how much of the frame supports and covers everything I decided flat steel would answer. But your way is best. When ever I sell, one look under my car will tell you the floors have been replaced and ,not that I would try to hide that fact, but you never can tell how well something is done until you tear it apart. I welded the tin in real tight and followed the contours like you should but I feel like I'm cutting corners.

Cuppy65, we always try to use original style panels as those ribs add a lot of strength to the car. There are a number of suppliers that sell panels that are absolutely as the originals were.

Radford Panels make panels to order (but there can be a 2-3 month wait and they are so busy that they tend to be difficult to contact) and Chris Draycott's (the Sunbeam Alpine racer) company Sunbeam Classic Spares supply panels that are just like the originals too. These are both UK companies but they ship all over. Various other UK Sunbeam suppliers stock original style panels if you ever need any.

My name is Marcel and I’m restoring an 1966 Alpine S5 at the moment.

I would like to know how much time I have to calculate to repair the 4 Floor pans, inner and outer sills (L&R), Door skins (L&R) and front Valance.

Do you have any Idea (remember) how many hours what took in your restoration?
Any input would be really helpful

Marcel, That is a virtually impossible to answer question as there are so many variables and it depends what state the car is in now and what level you want take it to. I worked on our Alpine almost every day, often for 8 solid hours and it took just under 3 years to go from total rusted out wreck to prize winner but the car required absolutely everything doing. Whatever time you expect it to take, add more!
