Steering box shaft removal

I have the Burman type F box and the shaft bearings seem pretty rough. What is the technique for shaft removal? Is it to remove the backside bolts and screw the shaft out? I don't know what to expect with the steel balls. The sliding arm actuator (containing some of the balls) isn't removable as the lower part is bolted to the upper from underneith and inaccessible.
