I don't know anything about racing equipment except what I come across in various articles, but it seems like date of manufacture is important - any idea?

I don't know either Mike.... I'll look for the date on the box or harness?

there are dates on the tags that are sewn into the belts
if they are more than 2-3 yrs they will not pass tech
good for a street car

The last picture has the date tag on the belt. three years old max. For SVRA or VSCDA

There are no date tags on the box which would make sense.

The tag on the harness looks like 2019 - 2020 - 2021 a three year span. The little boxes by the year(s) is not checked, so how do you tell when the expiration for the safety regulators?

If the date has expired? What then?

You send it in and have it re webbed and re-certified. Usually costs about the same as a new set so not always economical.

I'm curious as to how a date would effect the harness if it was never used (New in the box). I may be the first to ever even open the box as I recall and that was only this past July.

Dan,

The date does not directly affect the harness, but exposure to heat / UV / chemicals / abrasion / normal wear & tear / etc. does.

The racing organizations don't know when the harness was taken out of the box or what it has been subjected to, so they require the manufacturing date to be shown and apply an arbitrary "safe life span".

It's partly about safety and partly about liability.
