Be happy to talk about the soft top install if you want. If you do a search there should be one or more threads where I go through the process, you might want to check those out as well since I list the tools I use.

I have a 'new' soft top, or one that came in the boot anyway. Might not be new, but has never been installed.

If time permits I may get it on before leaving.

If not, perhaps a session could be on soft top with the Air-pine providing a class room. I'd not be the teacher though, never done this before :) .

I am not much worried about rain, have been soaked many times in a Sunbeam, but am a little bit concerned about the sun for all the hours of driving.

The storm presently in Florida most likely will blow this way and soak us for a few days, but the 10 day Weather.com forecast shows that rain halting before caravan day ...

Last year Dwain and I drove up and back with the top down. The key is to have a light weight jacket and some sun screen. It's so much fun with the wind blowing and the sun shining. I got a little red last year but not bad. Didn't Mike volunteer to hold a tech session on the subject? Didn't you Mike?

Am making progress...still a ways to go.

One fuel leak solved (I think) and the other one identified for resolution tomorrow (I think).

Otherwise, not too bad. The carbs STILL are not right; had a looong talk with carby guy today and they want to see the car Monday perhaps if I have time.

Can't tell about oil consumption yet, but it is using. Doesn't smoke, but uses somehow unknown. I will have to watch the car's fluids closely.

I drove up to your neck of the woods on I85 this afternoon, just a quick jaunt to see what would happen. Car did fine, maybe 40 miles total. Ran a little warm.

Ran up to indicated 75, car was buzzing right along, and it struck me how great a OD setup would be to allow the little engine to purr at 70-75...

I'm beginning to appreciate the paint job :) :) . It is unreal how many people love that paint job. Especially younger ladies, but older ones too. They toot their horns and wave. They punch their friends, point and shout good things (I think, can't hear yellers that well). If stopped, they walk up and say nice things. So no hurry to sand it off for factory colors :) . Torquoise might be a good color after all :) .

But back to your question - how's it doing. I'll keep testing, driving &&&etc. Unless something really bad shakes out, count the car in ...

Once we get to Tipp, I'd bet someone will be able to lend a hand on the carbs.
Using oil ? sure it's just not dripping out ? :D

Don't leave your car at the carb shop! it'll be another month before you see it again.

Weird scenes inside the gold mine, for sure.

Fuel leak is due to a bad seal for the fuel level sending unit. Will yank that tank, do a replacement on the bench. NAPA had no sealant good with gas, so it's gotta work as designed.

Am also getting the alignment checked. The front seemed a little hostile on a test drive around half the metro-loop.

Carbs are crap. I made an appt with the carb guys for Monday.

Thanks. Not 100% sure on pulling the tank, but it seemed like a good idea if the sending unit seal to ring on the tank is problematic (might be fine :) ).

Perhaps installing a new seal without pulling the tank will work, certainly much more time-efficient, opening up more time for testing...

There is no need to pull the tank. Even if the gasket around the sender leaks it is only a problem if the tank is filled too full.

I'd like to drop something off all right, but not the car :) .

A few years back, I brought suit against an oil company for selling me a tank of bad fuel. Their attys threatened to bury me in paper, I promised a good show before a Georgia jury with submission of a bottle of their tainted fuel saved by the dealer's mechanic and tested by a university chemist.

That's what I'd like to drop off, a notice of intent to discuss this before a judge.

I think that firm has had the car for ~ 3 months total; their charge in total rivals the purchase price of the entire car.

The carbs are not working. Not by any definition I am familiar with anyway.

I hope they will chug a lug me to Marietta at sunrise tomorrow.

I believe those guys owe a carb adjustment at my a.m. appt, to perfection, or a refund.

The WIP zeniths only have 2 adjustments. One is for idle speed.

The main adjustment is the air/fuel screw.

I turned those suckers into max lean, then drove the car. After a block or two, I'd stop and open (richen) them both a half turn, kept doing that until the screws had no more turns left.

Waste of time. Carbs were non-responsive to the air/fuel adjusters.

Tried to tune 'em with a vacuum gauge, no betta luck.

So there it is.

Air-pine is good to go I believe. No where near what I'd like for an INvasion, but good enough to try the trip, I think.

Except for the carbs.

Tomorrow and Tuesday are it for me. Wednesday was booked a while back.

This is disgusting, and I'm pretty fed up with Carb Specialists in Marietta GA.

At this point, I should say I am uncertain on the caravan. My Volvo decided to require attention, but maybe it can be readied in time.

If the carb guys who have rebuilt the carbs, and subsequently opened and cleaned them twice, can't adjust the carbs in 5 minutes flat, there is a problem.

Zeniths have a bad rep in some quarters but I am of the opinion the Zeniths are outstanding, the folks claiming to rebuild them however ...

Allan, If the 'pine's not ready you just need to get to the McD in Marrita for a ride. Then again if we can get it to Tipp, I'm thinkin' it can be made right !
I've not been to an Invasion, but from what's been written you will have plenty of support and helpful advice(even some that will work:D) to get the Air-Pine in shape. Isn't that the way it goes guys?
Let us know what's up. I'm hearing (rightfully so) some discourgement in your posts. also a bit of pisXed off-ed-ness(made that one up) at the carb shop. Hang in there................

BTW, I know absolutely zilch about Zeniths, but don't they have a third (maybe fourth) adjustment, float height and drop? I think I can see how very low fuel level could make the carbs nonresponsive to adjustment. Also, typically on that type of carb, the adjustment screw is idle richness and active only at low speeds.

When I worked on Tom's car we had a real problem getting the intake to seal up, due to the new style intake gasket. The carbs would not sync or respond well to adjustments due to a vacuum leak and if they will not sync or are not synced the other adjustments are pretty much out the window. Do you have uni sync? have you looked for a vacuum leak at the intake.

My SV had a lean condition that nothing would correct, I just fattened the jets and made it as good as it got. Later when I stripped the car to a shell I found the T fitting where the two tanks come togeter to the main gas feed line to be just slap filled with paint chips. Cannot prove that restriction was the problem but have to wonder.

If you take the carbs to the Invasion would be interesting to bolt them on another car and see how they respond

The carbs can leak in several places.

The spindles wear and they can leak there.

They can also leak where they sit on the manifold.

I hope that the car drives under its own power to the Invasion. Sorta leery of a prediction, but maybe.

Carb guys said the carbs were 'leaning out again' and pointed to miniscule debris in the fuel filter.

While I was there, they got the first carb going Ok, I think, but the other carb has a problem of nonresponse. So they are doing what they can do, and are aware of the time pressure ...

I can't swear there is no vacuum leak. Might be one, there is a new whistle noise from somewhere, maybe a gasket. The carb guys know about vacuum leaks though, and informed me of one at one point.

So, tomorrow will get the Volvo repaired if possible. Electric windows decided to stick, and AC went out .. :) .

The 84.5 intercooled, turbo'ed 5 speed Volvo is my other project car, and is almost ready for trips. It's also my main driver.

Your note raised my Zenith knowledge quotient 100% :) and I was pleased to parrot the new info to the carb guys.

They are working on one of the carbs, maintaining that it had leaned out, possibly due to more debris. Not sure where that is coming from, or if it in fact is the current issue.

But they got one carb working while I watched and if the car can get a priority, might be on the road again soon ...

I'll be the first one to tell you, I don't know Jack about carbs,(except they have LOTS of little parts and smell like fuel)... but small amount of junk IN the fuel FILTER.? Why would that mess up the carbs, it's already filtered out. :confused:
Allan, Re-up your AAA, have the carb guys do what they can to make them run at highway speed and let's go to Tipp City and get that car running right.
I have to think somebody there will be able to help, How 'bout fella's.
